P&C

Overview
Jolimont Primary School is lucky to have a diverse yet friendly and active community – we may be a small school but we are strong, and Jolimont P&C is a group of parents and carers who volunteer their time to promote the interests of the school. We do this by organising community events and raising funds to improve facilities and resources at the school. All parents and carers from the school community are invited to join the P&C and there are plenty of ways to be involved.

Some of the events we regularly organise include a Mothers’ Day Breakfast, camp out for Dads and kids, Halloween discos, lapathons and colour runs, cake stalls on Election Day, welcome picnics, Carol nights, Art Auctions and Grandparents Day.

In 2018 we will also be holding our inaugural Twilight Fete. It is important to us at Jolimont to have community events which allow different groups from around the school to get involved.

As well as holding community and fundraising events, the P&C are also responsible for other roles within the school such as running the uniform shop and book club, assisting with the kitchen garden and helping with busybees. Getting involved with the P&C is a great way to meet new people and learn more about the school.

Every year, the money raised by the P&C is reinvested back into the school community. We plan community events which are free for families to attend, and we also grant money to the school for a wide range of one-off and ongoing projects including construction of the large nature play area, new computers, flexible learning furniture, table tennis and special incursions for the students.

Meetings
The P&C meetings are a great way to find out what’s happening at school, with the Principal providing an update on the school’s plans and activities at each meeting. The meetings also provide an opportunity to get to know other parents at the school. Please don’t feel that you are required to contribute to the meeting, or that you will be expected to volunteer your time - you are simply welcome to come along and listen to what we are planning. Of course, help is always appreciated too!

P&C meetings are held twice a term in the school Library: Tuesday of Week 3 and Wednesday of Week 7. Meetings run from 7pm to 9pm and all members of the community are welcome to attend and participate.

In 2018 the meeting dates are:
Term 2: Wednesday 30th May and Wednesday 13th June
Term 3: Tuesday 31st July and Wednesday 29th August
Term 4: Tuesday 23rd October and Wednesday 21st November

The Annual General Meeting is typically the second meeting of the year, and all committee positions are open for nomination.  You are welcome to come along and become a member of the committee without having to nominate for one of the official roles. Our Planning Meeting is held in 4th term, and is when we plan the following year’s major events and fundraisers. We are always eager to have new committee members and to hear any ideas and suggestions you may have.

Communication
The P&C sends an email newsletter every fortnight to parents updating them on events, meetings, news and information about the school. To receive these emails, please let us know by emailing the following jolimontpspandc@gmail.com.

I agree to receive email communication from Jolimont P&C. I will email the P&C when I wish to be removed from the list.

It’s really important that you add yourself to the P&C Communication list so you can keep up to date with what is happening. We also ask that you let us know when you’d like to be removed from the list.

There is also a communications board in the hall outside the front office. Here you will find paper copies of the latest newsletter, information about upcoming events, fundraising information and more. The board is constantly updated so you can keep an eye on what’s coming up.

Funding to the School for 2018
The P&C accepts major funding requests at the beginning of each year, and takes advice from the Board and Principal about how funds raised can best support student learning. Because last years’ focus was on playground equipment, this year the school would like to fund resources. The school has requested a total of $21,936 for a range of literacy, technology, science and early childhood learning. These resources will have a positive impact on students in every year across the school. We are conducting a number of fundraising events throughout the year to allow us to grant these funds to the school, with the major event being our inaugural Twilight Fete on Saturday 1st December.

Fundraising
In addition to specific fundraising events, the school is involved in a number of ongoing passive fundraisers throughout the year. These include our unique Joli Tote bags, Entertainment Books, Scholastic Book Club, the Community Chest at SupaIGA Wembley, and labels and stickers from That’s Mine.

Our top-quality heavy cotton Joli Tote bags are ideal for shopping now the national ban on single-use plastic bags has taken effect. With the street names and suburbs of our entire 2017 student population, the bags are available online at https://www.trybooking.com/379181. Only a limited number of these special keepsakes were produced, so hurry before they all sell out.

Entertainment Books are available in both book form and digital, and offer hundreds of deals and discounts at restaurants and businesses across Perth. New books are released every year around April/May. You can buy an Entertainment Book here, and 20% will be donated to the school: https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/859p48

Each term all children are given a Scholastic Book Club catalogue, which has hundreds of fantastic books and other items available for sale. You can order books online or via the paper catalogues and your order will be delivered to the school. Jolimont gets a donation of 20% of all sales which is then used to supply the library and classrooms with new books, as well as prizes for events during the year. We also have a Book Fair every year where you can come in and browse through the books before you choose to buy them.

That’s Mine provides name labels and personalised stickers which are perfect for labelling school supplies and clothing. They donate 20% of each sale back to the school, and all you need to do is enter the code 1377 when you reach the checkout at https://www.thatsmine.com.au/.

The Wembley SupaIGA is located on the corner of Cambridge and Jersey Streets, and is open 24/7. They donate a percentage of every sale back to the school – all you need to do is ask for a Rewards Card the next time you shop there, and when setting up your account online at home, simply nominate Jolimont Primary School as your beneficiary.

If you have any fundraising ideas you’d like the school to be involved in, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

How Can You Help
There are many ways you can become more involved in the school community:

- Attend Committee meetings
- Assist with organising a stall at the 2018 Twilight Fete
- Become a Committee member
- Volunteer to organise or help with an event
- Become a class rep
- Help in the uniform shop
- Assist with ongoing fundraisers such as Bookclub and Colour-Run
- Donate items for the 2018 Twilight Fete

Class Reps
A class rep is a parent or carer who volunteers to take on a co-ordinator role for their class. This position is primarily a social one, and the parent rep will organise events such as afterschool plays for the kids, parent dinners and other events where families get together. Their role can also mean helping teachers with class activities, welcoming new families, and co-ordinating helpers for school and P&C events.

P&C Events Calendar for 2018
At the end of each year, the P&C holds a planning meeting for the following year. This is where we plan the major events and fundraisers for the following 12 months. We always need extra helpers to assist with some of the events, so please let us know if you’d like to be involved in organizing any of the events.

We understand that many people work full time or have small children at home, meaning it can be difficult to attend meetings during school time or in the evenings. However there are always jobs that can be done in your own time at home and we welcome any offers of help.
